Valerie received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Redlands. She has spent over three decades working in upper management for the United States Postal Service. As she is getting closer to retiring from the USPS, she decided she wanted to find a new job to fill her days, and since she enjoys working with people of all ages, but especially seniors, she decided to get her Insurance license and become a Medicare agent. Val decided to make Bridlewood her home, as she and her husband had a daughter that played sports for years with Jeff Wetzel (President of Bridlewood) and Kim’s daughter. She is eager to build lasting relationships with her clients, as she helps guide them through Medicare and their choices for supplemental insurance.
Val is originally from Santa Monica. She then moved to Thousand Oaks for her High School years, and then came to San Diego for college. She and her husband, John, lived in Poway for 18 years and then Rancho Bernardo for a short time, before moving to Escondido in 2018. She and John have been married for 34 years and have two wonderful, adult children – Amanda (25) and Matt (21). They also have a dog named Stella. When she has time off, you can find Val in her garden, or enjoying scrapbooking and other various crafts.
John Tovey is a California native, and a graduate of Madison High School and San Diego State University, with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management. John was born at Balboa Hospital, while his father was serving in the US Navy. Since graduating from SDSU, he has held management positions in retail, wholesale and regional distribution. John began his insurance career as a life insurance specialist and gradually moved to health, property/casualty and commercial with a large insurer. In 2017, he made the move to Medicare insurance only. John holds health licenses in California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Nevada, Arizona, Texas and Minnesota. With over 16 years experience in the insurance industry, John is extremely well-suited to assist with all of his client’s insurance needs. He made the decision to join Bridlewood in 2017 with the help from my great childhood friend, who told him about the opportunity even before 2017, but he was not convinced until he attended an agent meeting with his friend. The energy and professionalism displayed at that meeting showed me enough to make the change.
As a new agent, the company provided all the training and marketing ideas to get his business growing. This led him to the best part; it is very gratifying when he sits down with a new client and takes away the confusion they are experiencing and really educates them on the process and plans that fit their needs. This is not a sales position, it is about taking care of someone’s health insurance and providing a service. He was excited at the prospect of helping Medicare-eligible seniors understand the complicated subject, educating them on their options and finding the best coverage for their needs. He loves the opportunity to sit with seniors one-on-one and educate them about all the intricacies of Medicare, and help them enroll in the best plan for their situation.
John, like his father, is a US Navy veteran, and has been married to his wonderful wife, Sandy, for 43 years. Together they have two great kids, Brian and Jennifer. Jennifer’s husband is a designer for Adidas, working in Germany, so John and Sandy cherish the times they come home and bring their two grandsons, Parker and Beckett, to visit. They also recently rescued two entertaining and energetic cats, Buddy and Babs. John loves taking a 3 mile walk every morning to start his day off right. Both he and Sandy are members of the Rancho Bernardo Business Association, where John is a board member. They also love to spend time at the beach, cooking and entertaining, and John is excited that he recently brewed his first batch of craft beer!

Jay is a seasoned southern California insurance agent with more than 15 years of experience. Medicare, Health and Life insurance are his specialties and he works with the majority of the major insurance carriers. He feels proud and privileged to have the opportunity to work with his daughter, Heather, and enjoys the father/daughter working relationship!
After living in Big Bear for 10 years with his dad, Jay learned how confusing Medicare could be for seniors. The last year in Big Bear his Dad’s heath declined and all he had was VA coverage. They learned first hand, the hard way, what not to do. And after his dad passed away in December 2009, he decided to specialize and concentrate in the Medicare insurance field.
Jay’s #1 job now is helping seniors better understand their Medicare options, answering all their questions, and helping them to feel comfortable and to make an informed decision on the best plan that fits their needs and their budget.
Heather, a California Girl born and raised, grew up in the small town of Ramona. After graduating from Montecito High School in 2006, she pursued a Real Estate Career and joined Keller Williams Realty and tried her luck at Real Estate for 5 Years.
In 2014, Heather made the best decision of her life and switched careers, selling insurance. She truly feels that this is her passion, and she has had the best trainer and mentor helping me every step of the way – her dad, Jay Gray. It is very rewarding being able to work together and spend time growing their business as a team. Her dad has shortened her learning curve tremendously, as he has been helping people throughout Southern California with their insurance for over 15 years, and he knows all the do’s and don’ts. Heather specializes in taking the time to help her clients find a plan that fits their needs and budget for Medicare, Health and Life Insurance. She really enjoy working with seniors, and takes great satisfaction in assisting them through this confusing process. She loves being able to offer home appointments or virtual appointments, to explain and answer all their questions with regard to their preferred doctors, hospitals and prescription drugs. Heather represents most of the major Medicare carriers and can help guide her clients to the appropriate plan, based on their medical and financial concerns.
In 2009, Heather had her son Kaden, who is a spunky little redhead that keeps her on her toes. He definitely is growing up way too fast, and has her laughing a lot. Heather loves music and enjoys going to concerts, Mexican food, going to winery’s and hanging out with friends and family! She also loves the flexibility of being her own boss and being able to make her own schedule. She says she can’t imagine her life any other way.
Michael is originally from Long Island, New York, and came to San Diego by way of his time in the service of the U.S. Navy, as a hospital corpsman. While he considered a career in medicine, he always had an interest in business and personal finance, which also require a good bedside manner.
Michael became a licensed financial advisor and insurance agent in 2003, and since then has had the privilege of helping hundreds of families with their insurance and finance needs. “Longevity runs in my family and I have seen the benefits that quality healthcare plans played in the lives of close family members, and this is why I want to help provide my clients with the best plan possible and be your Medicare agent for life.”

Janet has her Associates of Science in Child Development. She also holds her Health and Life licenses. She began working in insurance in 2007, as an Employee Benefit Consultant. Then several years later, started her own insurance agency, GWT Insurance Services. She works closely with special needs trust attorneys and fiduciaries. She decided to join Bridlewood Insurance, after working for another large agency that was out of state and provided little to no support to their agents. She started to look for a local agency and came across a flyer from Bridlewood. She met with the President, Jeff Wetzel, and felt that he and his organization would be a good fit for her. She says that the Bridlewood team has been very inspirational and her experience has been educational, and she is looking forward to growing her Medicare business with their help. Medicare is very confusing to many seniors, and Janet enjoys helping them understand the in’s and out’s of the Medicare system.
Janet was born in Mesa, AZ , but lived in Prescott as a child. Her dad moved their family to San Diego in 1975, as he continued to grow his insurance business. Janet met and married her husband, Fred, in 1997. They each had a son, so it was a ready-made family of 4. Fred, a naval officer, was transferred to Alice Springs, Australia in 1998, where they had their first child together. When they were transferred to Monterey, California, Fred obtained his Master’s degree at the Naval Post Graduate school, and they also had their second and last son. They now have 4 sons and 2 grandsons . . . and NO girls! Fred retired from the Navy in 2019 after serving 35 years, and Janet couldn’t be more proud.
“Glamping” is a big part of their family’s lives. They have an RV and their second oldest son has a camper that they take to the desert. They go to the dunes and ride dirt bikes and side-by-side cars. They also love to go the river boating. Although they are “empty nesters”, but all the boys live close by.
