Is there a lifetime limit on how often I can switch Medicare Advantage and Medicare Part D plans?

There is no lifetime limit on how many times you can switch from one Medicare Advantage or Part D prescription drug plan to another. The only thing that will limit the changes you make is the time of year or qualification for a Special Enrolment Period. You can change plans every year during the Annual Election Period, which runs from October 15th through December 7th, with the changes you make becoming effective January 1st of the following year. All Medicare Advantage and Part D plans run on a calendar year, so the benefits, deductibles, etc. always reset on January 1st regardless of when you enroll in the plan. If you move out of your plan’s service area or qualify for another Special Enrollment Period, you can change your Medicare Advantage or Part D plan during that Special Enrollment Period. Changes to Medicare Advantage and Part D plans must be made during the defined enrollment periods for those products. We have described the many different enrollment periods and how and when you may qualify for those in more detail in other FAQ’s.
