I live alone and don’t have a computer. How can I learn about Medicare drug plans and Medicare Advantage in my area?

There are several ways you can find out about the Medicare Part D prescription drug plans and Medicare Advantage plans available in your area if you don’t have access to a computer.

  1. Independent insurance agents – Working with a local independent insurance agent who is a Medicare specialist is probably the most popular way to get information about the plans available to you. Independent agents can meet with you in person, over the phone, or virtually. They generally work with various insurance companies and can help you select the right plan for your unique situation.
  2. 1-800-Medicare (1-800-633-4227) – This phone number is operated by the Federal Government to assist those with questions about Medicare and the options available to them and assist with enrollment. They can also provide Medicare information in an accessible format, like Braille, large print, data/audio files, relay services, and TTY communications.
  3. Area Agency On Aging – Your local Area Agency on Aging may have counselors available to help you select a Medicare plan in your area. It is important to note that these counselors are not licensed insurance agents and are not required to complete the annual training and certifications required of insurance agents.
