Joy received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences from Colorado State University, and also has an AAS in Zookeeping Technology and a Master’s degree in Teaching and Learning.  She currently utilizes all three degrees as the lead Natural Resource Specialist for the city of Aurora’s Open Space and Natural Resources program.  She has over 20 years experience in the public sector a natural resource professional, as well as being a certified Interpretive Guide and Trainer, teaching people about professional communication techniques.  Joy has been honored as an Outstanding Educator by Community Resources by the cities of Denver and Aurora, and her team has been nominated for the Outstanding Customer Service award.

Education is Joy’s passion, and when she was offered the opportunity to help people understand the Medicare process and assist them in selecting the most appropriate plan to meet their medical and budget needs, she couldn’t wait to get started!  She chose to work with Bridlewood Insurance, when her good friend and mentor, Mataya Yoakam, offered her the chance to join her team there.  Her favorite part of being a Medicare broker is knowing that she’s making a difference in people’s lives by helping them understand the complexities of Medicare.  Joy’s philosophy is to do everything she can to meet her client’s needs and to get them the optimal coverage for their healthcare needs.

Joy is originally from the east coast, but has lived in Colorado since she was 10 years old.  She says one day she would love to live by the beach on Kiawah Island in South Carolina.  She is not married and does not have kids . . but she does have a fur baby named Pirate, who is a 14-year old domestic, long-hair cat.  He is her baby!  Joy is most happy when she spends her spare time outdoors in nature, running, painting, dancing and reading.  She loves recreating at the Aurora Reservoir, which is one of her favorite places to swim and enjoy the sun during the summer.
